Most children are not hurt from outside sources such as abduction, or by a stranger, they are injured in their own home. Baby safety does requires you to baby proof your house, so that it will be safe for your child until they have gotten much older. There are many different things in every house that could potentially harm your child, so the best way to keep your baby safe is to look at the house from their point of view. What can you grab? What is wobbly, and could tip on you? Where are the outlets? Staircases? After you have crawled around the house, write down what you saw, and proceed to practice baby safety. Get plug covers, so that your baby will not accidentally poke the plugs. Purchase baby gates, so they cannot fall down the stairs. Window cords can cause strangulation in many children, be sure to tie them up. Another baby safety tip would be to look in drawers for any medications, poisons, or harmful substances, and remove them. Also be sure to put child locks on all cabinets within their reach. A few more baby safety tips:
- Never leave your baby unattended in the bath
- Get carbon monoxide detectors
- Be sure your smoke alarms are working properly
These are a few ways to practice baby safety, and prevent possible deaths, everything else you will have to do according to your own home specifications.
