Baby ThermometerFevers in young children can be extremely dangerous, so learning how to correctly take a child's temperature using a baby thermometer is very important. There are several ways to take an infant's temperature using one of these items, including axillary (by using the armpits), rectally (using the rectum), or by using an infrared thermometer. The prior two methods both require either a digital thermometer, or a mercury thermometer. And the last requires an infrared thermometer that is much more expensive, but easier to use, and less invasive. These three types of thermometers all require slightly different methods, but before using the mercury thermometer, be sure to shake it until it reaches 95.9 degrees. If this step is not completed every time the thermometer is used, the results will not be accurate. Each of these products uses a different technology, and some have been proven to be more accurate than others. However, every type will work well enough for you to know if your child is getting a fever or not. If your child does exhibit signs of sickness, contact your doctor immediately. Fevers can be immensely dangerous for children, causing brain damage, and possibly death. Related InformationBaby Infared Thermometer SIDS Baby Monitor
