The remote control operates as many as 16 devices (or groups of devices) and includes dimming and brightening buttons for use with dimmable lights. The plug-in base receives the commands and instantly sends them along the home's power lines. The system uses radio frequency signals instead of infrared, so you won't have to be in direct line of sight for proper operation. As long as the remote is within 100 feet of the plug-in base, it will work like a charm! The X10 Wireless Remote Control System requires 4 AAA batteries (sold separately). Want to control devices from more than one remote? Expanding is incredibly easy! Add as many handheld remotes as you want. As an added benefit, the plug-in base also doubles as a two-way X10 appliance module that responds to unit code 1 or 9. The plug-in base responds to other radio frequency X10 transmitters set to the same house code, like wireless motion sensors, wireless wall switches or keychain remotes, each sold separately.
