Child safety is a major concern in today's society. It is easier than ever to locate people, and figure out information about them. This is why every parent should be exposed to some general guidelines and tips. These tips can help you and your children communicate more effectively, and keep them safe when they get into potentially dangerous situations. When reviewing the following information with your children, make sure you are doing so in a calm manner, as you do not want your children to be constantly afraid. The goal is to educate themand teach them what to do in case of an emergency or threatening situation. Use some of these safety tips to get you started:

• Do not answer the door without a parent home.
• When children are alone at home, either do not answer the phone, or say their parents are unavailable, and ask to take a message.
• Your children should know how, and when to dial 911. Feel free to practice it with them.
• If your child gets lost, make sure they know to find help or dial 911.
• Teach them to always tell you where you are going, and for how long, and try to make them go with a friend.
• Make sure your child knows to not talk to strangers, unless they are close friends or relatives.

These are a just a few ideas for you and your children, but they are only a starting point. There are many dangers in today's world, and you cannot hope to tell your children about all of them. Go for the most important ones first, and keep teaching them.
