Companies go to great lengths to avoid injury to their employees. One of the ways they do this is by having employees wear brightly colored clothing. This makes them easier to see for people running machinery. Colored safety vests are very popular for this function because they can be put on over other work clothing, and they can even provide protection from the weather. Many industries use them, including construction companies, railway and airline services, law enforcement and emergency response teams, survey teams, fire departments, and others.

Colored safety vests can come in a variety of shades, but the most popular colors seem to be a fluorescent yellow or a vivid orange. Many people are familiar with these colors from traffic cones and construction sites. These colors are highly visible, even in low light conditions. In order to make them more visible in the dark, many colored safety vests also have reflective strips or patches on the front and back. These appear to glow in even faint light, making the worker more visible.

Depending on the weather conditions, colored safety vests can also include liners, or simply be coats in bright colors. In hotter conditions, the colored safety vest may be made of nylon or polyester mesh and be as light as possible. These kinds of vests are popular with road construction crews.
