A home environment safety check can include many different considerations. It should involve a check for the home's deadly and silent killers such as radon and carbon monoxide. Your home overview should also include checking for sharp corners or dangerous pieces of furniture. If you have an infant, you should look around your house for any items that might include small pieces. Infants often will be put small items in their mouths, and this creates a choking hazard.

A home safety check should also include checking the home for any electrical shorts or electrical problems. This includes putting blocks on electrical outlets. And don't forget to check all of your smoke detectors regularly. Smoke detectors should be in good working order and they should have fresh batteries. There should be a smoke or fire detector in every bedroom and every hallway. Your checklist should also include home security considerations. Are there locks on every window? Are the doors locked at night? Are there any vulnerable or weak points that might allow an intruder to enter the home?
