Keeping Your Child Safe in the Car
It is very important to take care of the child passengers inside the car. By using the correct car safety seats and safety belts for the kids, you can certainly reduce the number of serious traffic injuries suffered by children.
Here are some safety elements through which you can keep your child safe in the car:
The first rule in keeping children safe in the car is to help children understand safety by examples and helping them in identifying the danger areas inside the car. The parents need to enforce some strict safety rules for kids and their safety. If the child sees their parents following the safety rules, there will be a great chance for the kids to do the same.
To keep your loved ones safe in the car, use a proper car seat and make sure it is properly installed. Let a professional do the installation of your child safety seat for you to ensure it is done correctly.
Never place kid's car seat in the front if there are airbags. Always go for convertible car seats and place them in rear facing mode at in back seat of the car. Check to make sure the safety belt attached with the child seat is correctly threaded. The toddler car seat should be placed at a safe 45-degree angle. Use locking clips which will hold the child seat firmly with the help of a safety belt. There are boosters seats available for kids of 14 to 26 kg (3 yrs approximately), which can be used with a harness or a car's safety belt. Make sure the kid is tightened with the diagonally fitted belts of the booster seats for more safety. The child car seat will to a certain extent reduce the risk of injury and death of the child in a car accident.
Do not put pillows or blankets in the car seat to boost your child up. This changes the dynamics of the seat restraining system and will not give your child the protection it is capable of. The child's bottom should always be sitting flat on the seat.
Be sure that the seat belt or latch straps are holding the cad seat tightly if not, put your body weight into the seat to tighten the seat belt. Make sure the seat is adjusted correctly by moving the seat sideways, backward and to the front. Before leaving, make sure that your child is buckled in correctly. If you have an older child who buckles himself, make sure it is done before you pull off. Many accidents happen within just a few miles of the home.
