Safety Tips for the Web

The Internet is a fabulous thing, and a very helpful resource for information. It certainly makes sense to make yourself safe while spending your precious time on the net.

Some useful tips for the Web:

. A password is very useful element but you should keep it safe and do not tell or reveal it to anyone. It is recommended to change your passwords at regular intervals.

. Chatrooms are very tricky. There might be someone trying to trick you for all your personal details. Do not use your actual name. Use nicknames in chatrooms or anywhere on the Internet.

. Obey clear instructions over the net and abide all the rules. If you are not an adult or not over 18 years of age, restrict yourself to viewing sites or any material that clearly states you must be over 18 years old. These warnings are there to protect you! If nothing else, it could help reduce your Internet bills.

. Don't give away your only available e-mail address. Keep it private. If you want to give out an e-mail address create a standby e-mail address for the basic Internet forms.

. To keep yourself private, remember to log out of all the sites you visited after each session. By taking this preventive measure, you help protect against identity fraud or use services that only you are authorized to use.

. If it's not a matter of great importance or emergency, don't send your picture to strangers. Keep information or details such as, bank or credit card details private. You can check if a site is secure by looking to the bottom of your screen for a lock/padlock icon or consult an adult for the same. If it is locked then the site is secure. . Avoid accessing unfamiliar e-mail attachments unless they are from someone you already know and trust. The attachments can contain viruses or other programs that can destroy all the information and software on your computer. Don't respond to nasty, suggestive messages, or rude pictures. Immediately inform any such suspicious matter to your parents or your service provider.

. Internet predators can use many ways to tame adults as well as young kids, with the above useful tips and advise, you have a much greater chance of protecting you and your family.
