Transitional lens safety glasses are becoming extremely popular with people who need to work outdoors. The correct term for this type of lens is actually photo chromic, or photo chromatic. The company Transitions coined the term transitionals, and the name stuck.

The general concept behind these types of glasses is that the chemical balance is changed when the lens is exposed to UV light, given off by the sun, making the lens change to a darker shade. The opposite happens after going indoors, as the UV light is blocked, and the lenses change to their normal clear color. Transitional glasses are a pretty recent discovery because they are being made out of a special type of plastic (the same that is used in bulletproof glass), which will stop almost anything flying at your eyes.

These glasses are the perfect way to work outside and keep your eyes from not only the sun, but from any other objects that could get into your eyes. Many of the prescription glasses being produced today are safety rated, and can actually be used as transitional glasses. This is a large positive for the makers of transitional lenses because now your safety glasses are not only shatterproof, sunglasses, and indoor safety glasses, but they are prescription as well, making them extremely convenient.
